Why does PolyU use a different scoring system from other universities?

PolyU uses its own internal scoring system where scores typically range from 146 to 299, unlike the standard Best 5 scale used by most other universities. The conversion is the same (5**=8.5, 5*=7, etc.), but PolyU applies its own weighting formula. Medical and health-related programmes tend to score highest (250–299), while engineering and business programmes score in the 175–230 range. Always compare scores within PolyU's own scale.
